Isiolo is set to be a big deal in a few years to come. There’s a resort city in development, an unveiling of the Isiolo International Airport coming soon and an expected boost in tourist numbers as never before seen . This hilly paradise is home to a beautiful mix of cultures including the Somali, Meru, Borana & several other cushites. If ever you make a stop in Isiolo, whether you are the truck driver on transit, the curious traveler visiting the Samburu, Buffalo Springs or Shaba National Reserves, then you’ll probably hear of Bomen Hotel Ltd. It isn’t exactly easy to spot, but it does make for a quaint little accommodation spot.

Bomen Hotel Ltd Isiolo

A team of freelance writers was selected to attend the 2016 Marsabit-Lake Turkana Festival and I was lucky to be part of the team. Isiolo was our first night stop on our way to Loiyangalani (the event venue) and Bomen Hotel Ltd would have the pleasure of gracing us on the night of the 17th of May. Walking into the reception, I am greeted by a lady behind the reception desk who then hands me my room keys and points me in the direction of the bell-boy who is already now handling my friend’s luggage. He proceeds to show us to our rooms.

The room’s design is simple. It is clean, has plenty of storage space for an individual and has a clean bath.

During my night at Bomen, I struggled with the hotel Wi-Fi which motivated me to call it a night. I was tired so I quickly drifted off to sleep without letting the hard mattress bother me.

What’s not to like about Bomen Hotel Ltd

I had a few issues with the staff. One of the female attendees knocked on my door, looked at me confusedly before realizing she was at the wrong place and then left. Now I have never taken a course in Hospitality Management, but I do know that an ‘I’m sorry madam’ or ‘I think I got the wrong room’ would have been necessary.

Secondly, the chef at Bomen Hotel does not know how to make Sunny Side Up eggs. I asked for two, but got something that was neither Sunny nor looked like egg. Sending it back did not make the situation better. The eggs came back oily and looked highly unappetizing.

Bomen Hotel makes for an interesting stay, but wouldn’t be first on my list the next time I am in Isiolo. Bomen, you get a 4/10 from me.
