Let’s go bananas, why don’t we? After all, traffic’s been a bust all week, Pistorius has gotten 1/3 of the time we all expected he would get and hey, you only live once right?
In this post, I literally go bananas. You know you’re crazy when you start saving food for application instead of ingestion. Bananas not only have numerous benefits when eaten, but also when smeared on your face. This super fruit contains vitamins A, B, E and high levels of potassium not only boosts the lymphatic system, but also naturally fights blemishes, moisturizes, combats free radicals and evens out skin.
While a pure banana mask can definitely nourish skin as well as fight pimples, this DIY banana face mask is packed with two super ingredients your skin will love you for; coconut oil and egg yolk.
1. Mash your banana, egg yolk and 2tsp of coconut oil altogether. Continue until the mixture blends.
2. Wash your face with warm water and then apply the mix and let it settle for 20 minutes or until it dries.
3. Rinse with cold water
Bananas are a great exfoliant and we all know why exfoliation is important. Make sure you take your time with this mask, gently massaging it into your skin during application and removal. Some of the mix is bound to stick on your hair. Wash it off gently.
After removing the face mask, I felt like I was literally in a whole other world. Like the feeling you get after waking up from a nap and finding food ready. My skin felt softer, like she had come back from the dead. I could feel my skin breathe better, like a heavy load had been lifted from my dermis.
So, why bananas? They moisturize and soften your skin. Vitamin A gets rid of dark spots and blemishes as well as evening out rough skin. Vitamin B delays aging, reduces dryness, moisturizes and lightens your skin. Vitamin E boosts the skin’s resistance to sun rays, prevents wrinkles and fights free radicals. They’re also affordable and readily available!
Why egg yolk? Egg yolk is rich in vitamins B2, B3 and Zinc. B2 helps reduce stress, B3 aids with circulation and helps skin look healthier and more youthful. Zinc boosts your immune system which can clear acne and prevent breakouts.
Why coconut oil? Coconut oil hydrates, moisturizes and softens skin. It contains lauric acid which kills bacteria that causes acne.
