What’s an effective solution for dull skin? Sometimes stress, the weather, our diets and other factors can make our skin look unloved. Lately, my skin’s been looking and feeling malnourished. I decided to use one of my favorite mask ingredients (turmeric) to bring some radiance back to my face and boy did it work! This face mask is easy to make and you’ll enjoy the instant results. Let’s get into it.

You will need;

2tbsp of plain yoghurt

1tbsp of turmeric powder

½ of an avocado

Mash your avocado in a bowl and add the rest of the ingredients. Mix thoroughly.

Use hot water to steam your face so as to open up your pores. Gently apply the mask on your face using circular motions. Leave the mask on for 20 to 30 minutes and then wash off with cold water to lock your pores.

My Experience

I started feeling some tightness after the 30th minute mark. Turmeric stained my fingernails, but I was able to get rid of the yellowness after washing my hands repeatedly.

My skin felt as smooth as velvet after washing off the mask. The change is highly visible. This mask left my face super oily. I reckon it’s the plain yoghurt I used. I found that it was very fatty. I washed my face with warm water to help with reducing the oiliness.

I noticed a sort of face-lift after removing the mask. No complaints there!

Avocado is a super fruit when it comes to beauty benefits. Avocados tighten pores, hydrate dry skin and moisturize it. They contain anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties that promote healthy and young skin. Avocados nourish the skin with Vitamin E, fatty acids and natural oils.

Plain yoghurt strengthens the skin with zinc, B vitamins and calcium. Yoghurt contains live cultures and anti-bacterial properties that clear acne. This chunky white liquid nourishes and hydrates skin, softening it and keeping it smooth and supple.

Turmeric is often referred to as the golden spice of life. I love its deep orange colour. Turmeric has anti-bacterial, anti-septic, anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties. It contains calcium which heals dry skin. It’s rich in Vitamins C and B6 which maintain skin elasticity and moisturize skin respectively. The potassium content in turmeric hydrates skin cells, while the magnesium content promotes youthful radiant skin.

Homemade Turmeric Face Mask Tips

-Wear a dark, old t-shirt because the turmeric can stain your clothes easily.

-If you have excess mask left over just store it in the refrigerator for up to a week.

-Use plain yoghurt to avoid any skin irritation.

-Use some lemon juice to wash your nails if you aren’t able to remove the turmeric stains on your fingernails.

-Tie your hair with a hairband to prevent it from coming in contact with the mask.
