It was kinda surprising that I’ve never done a DIY turmeric body scrub before considering the number of times I have used turmeric powder as a beauty ingredient. There’s a first time for everything and Kish is all about firsts. The main thing to always remember when handling turmeric is that it stains without apology. There you’ll be rubbing a few granules between your fingers while enjoying its texture and it will still stain you despite the love you have for it. But the results it has are always ah-may-zing!
I’m still trying to decide if I should share my turmeric body scrub fail as I type at you, let’s hope you won’t judge me for being colossally dumb at the end of this post.
For this DIY turmeric body scrub you will need the following;
-2 tbsp. sugar
-1 tbsp. turmeric powder
-2 tbsp. olive oil
(serves one-time application)
Mix your sugar and turmeric in a bowl. Add your extra virgin olive oil and mix the ingredients until uniform. Add more extra virgin olive oil if you want a different consistency. Use the scrub in the shower after bathing. Wait 10 minutes before washing it off and rinse off repeatedly until you are sure you have washed it off completely.
I love exfoliating my skin with sugar because it is an intense exfoliant and you end up feeling like you’ve truly gotten rid of all the dirt that was clogging your pores. This scrub made me feel good as I slowly scrubbed it on my wet skin. You begin to feel its relaxing effect almost immediately.
The scrub gave my skin a total boost. Skin that was looking sun damaged and droopy transformed into a shiny, silky smooth coat. The change is highly visible.
I made a HUGE mistake with this mask- I didn’t rinse thoroughly which led to turmeric staining my towel, t-shirt and sheets.
My body was still yellow the day after because my clothes and underwear got stained too.
Beauty Benefits Of Ingredients Used
Turmeric has antioxidants that reduce cell damage. Its anti-inflammatory properties help in reducing dark circles. Turmeric can soften fine lines, get rid of scars, acne, rosacea (a chronic skin condition that appears in the form of pimples and redness), etc. Turmeric brightens skin and leaves it young. I used Tropical Heat Turmeric Powder.
Olive oil moisturizes and softens skin. I used Pietro Coricelli Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Sugar is rich in glycolic acid, which is a sought after ingredient in many high end beauty products. It conditions and moisturizes as well as protect skin from toxins.
DIY Turmeric Body Scrub Tips
-Rinse thoroughly. When you think you have rinsed enough, do it one more time just to be sure. Learn from my mistakes.
-Use the scrub when you have enough time to yourself. No rush.
-For a less intense exfoliant, add more olive oil to the scrub. For a more intense exfoliant, add more sugar.
-Do NOT use soap to rinse off the scrub. Stick to plain warm water only.
Intense exfoliants can only be used once a week while less intense exfoliants can be used up to twice a week. Will you be trying this turmeric body scrub any time soon? Make sure to let me know in the comments below.
