What do you get when you mix yoghurt, turmeric powder and honey? An all-natural face brightener, that’s what. I think this post showed you the mighty powers of turmeric and natural yoghurt. I added honey to the two here because I wanted a natural skin healer to what had become dry, cracked skin (S/O to Nairobi’s heat).
If you’ve been searching for a solution to dull and deprived-looking skin, then this mask will do you just right.
You will need;
1 tbsp. plain yoghurt
½ tbsp. turmeric powder
1 tbsp. honey
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and stir until the mixture is uniform. Steam your face with hot water or use warm water to open your pores. Pat yourself dry. Use some cotton wool or an old makeup brush to apply the mask. Remember, turmeric stains easily.
Leave the mask on until it dries. This should take 15 to 30 minutes. Wash the yoghurt turmeric facemask off using cold water, dry and use your favourite moisturizer after.
I could already tell there was a major difference in how my face looked after washing a small section of it. My skin looked whiter and healthier. It looked moisturized and younger. I don’t have to worry about dull skin anymore.
I used Bio plain yoghurt which felt light and also tasted delicious. Plain yoghurt contains zinc and lactic acid. The latter exfoliates skin beautifully while the previous reduces scars and sun spots. Read more on the benefits of plain yoghurt for skin here
I used Tropical Heat turmeric powder instead of the actual turmeric root. Turmeric helps fight acne and bacteria. It’s also a natural skin whitener. See more benefits of turmeric here
It’s always best to use natural honey for a homemade facemask. I used Greenforest honey. Honey is antibacterial and nourishes dry skin. It cleans your skin. See more benefits here
DIY Skin Brightening Facemask Tips
-Turmeric stains easily so use gloves if you don’t want it staining your nails. If it does, make a baking soda+water paste and use it to wash your nails.
-Wear an old t-shirt
-Relax and let the mask sit quietly. Lie down if you can.
-Add a tbsp. of lemon juice to give this skin brightening face mask a mean punch. The acid in lemon juice exfoliates and cleans skin.
Did you know that Indian brides swear by turmeric? Young females use it to brighten their skin before their wedding ceremonies. This was an extremely satisfying face mask for me. I enjoy my skin’s new, smooth feel and young, fresh look. If you’ve tried this DIY skin brightening facemask before, let me know your experience in the comments below.
