I’ve always had some of the most lethal eye bags ever. I’m the type who’ll sleep 10 hours and still wake up looking beat. Literally. It’s always been one of my insecurities- the eye bags, but there’s little you can do when it’s something you’re predisposed to.

The skin under your eyes covers fatty tissues, muscles and blood vessels and it’s thin. Dark circles occur when light is reflected back from blood vessels sitting right below the skin’s surface. Some people have extra dark circles and this is because skin colour and thickness varies from one person to another. When this is the reason behind your dark circles, there’s little you can do about it.

Another thing that causes dark circles and eye bags is overnight crying or lack of enough sleep. If you’ve just come from having a rough night or you’re looking for natural ways of reducing dark circles, then this one’s for you.

How To Do It

Brew a cup of green tea and store the tea bag in the refrigerator for 5 to 10 minutes. I like using mine when it’s still slightly warm. Take out the tea bag and place it on either eye for 5 minutes each. Lie down throughout the process and just relax.

 Eye Bags & Dark Circles

It would be easier to use a tea bag for each eye, but I don’t know how to do that without wasting mine so I use one.

Does It Work?

Caffeine in the green tea bags helps to shrink blood vessels around the eyes reducing dark circles and puffiness. The tea bags also contain antioxidants and tannins. Antioxidants protect your skin from free radicals while tannins stimulate blood circulation and also tighten and soothe.

Massaging the green tea bag under your eyes feels so relaxing. The smell is great and the fact that my dark circles will end up looking a little milder gives me the confidence I need to face the day. The tea bags have an effect- my face looks brighter and the eye bags look lighter

Eye Bags & Dark Circles

The only way you can get rid of your dark circles for sure is investing in a reasonable number of hours of sleep, good diet, drinking water and exercise. I’d definitely recommend that you do this tactic everyday if you have problems with dark circles. Start out by doing a bi-weekly test so that you can find out how green tea reacts to your skin type. If this works for you, let me know in the comments below! xx
