The holidays are among us! People who don’t get excited about the holidays must either be aliens or just dead inside. It’s everyone’s favourite time of the year and it calls for some delicious snacking. Something about this creamy avocado dip screams “let’s party”. And when we have holiday and let’s party in the same sentence nothing can go wrong. This creamy avocado dip recipe has a smooth creamy texture and pairs deliciously with tortilla chips or cut up veggies.
My creamy dip serves 5 people. To make this bowl of goodness you will need the following;
-1 ripe avocado
-Plain, fat-free Greek yoghurt
-1/2 clove garlic minced
-1 tsp. cumin powder
-3 tbsp. coriander leaves (dhania)
-1 tsp. finely chopped red peppers (seeds intact)
-Juice of a lime
-Salt to taste
Scoop out your avocado and place in a bowl. Use a fork to mash it. Add your yoghurt, lime juice, coriander, garlic, red peppers and cumin to the bowl. Continue mixing until it is uniform. Add your salt once you are satisfied with the consistency. Transfer to a serving bowl and serve with tortilla chips or cut up veggies.
1. Mashed avocado
2. Mashed avocado & yoghurt
3. All ingredients mixed (notice the consistency)
Are you sure you’re ready? Because I wasn’t. This dip created an explosion of delicious flavors in my mouth. As each El Sabor Nacho chip got crushed in my mouth, I could feel the delicious combination the chips and dip created. I could almost swear I was never to brush my teeth again. The avocado and Greek yoghurt mix so well together. I was so happy with the consistency. Even in the bowl, untouched and just screaming out ‘Eat me’, the dip looked elegant and scrumptious already.
The chips can be eaten as a standalone snack. The El Sabor Nacho Chips Texas BBQ flavor is delicious. I took 30 minutes to prepare the dip. You know they say that too much of anything is poisonous, but give me a bowl of this creamy avocado dip anytime and you’re officially my hero.
Why Greek Yoghurt And Not Normal Yoghurt?
Plain Greek yoghurt has twice the protein, half the carbs and ½ the sodium regular yoghurt has. Of course it tastes 100 times worse, but that can be fixed with some good quality honey. I used Brown’s Greek yoghurt for this creamy avocado dip recipe. It has 0% fat and no additives. You don’t want a flavored yoghurt giving your dip a weird taste. The other ingredients provide a unique taste in this dip.
Greek yoghurt has a thick, creamy texture. It’s strained to remove lactose and whey. It’s a much healthier alternative to regular yoghurt, but the downside is that it is almost triple the cost. 250g retails at 335/- at Nakumatt.
Do you think this creamy avocado dip will feature on your dinner table any time soon? I’d definitely make this for brunch or as an appetizer. I would also make this for anyone who’s had a bad day or is in need of a pick me up because I believe that in avocados lies the answer to world peace.
